Project description
The construction of a variant to the EN 321-1 (nacional road) between Baião and Soalhães, respectively located in the counties of Baião and Marco de Canavezes, was based on the need to reduce the impact of the traffic on the current road as it crosses towns and from the need to connect the two counties on a regional level, affirming itself as a project of recognised municipal and public interest. The mountainous terrain and the existence of a pre-established channel in the planning chart and constraints of the municipal master plans of the involved counties were challenges A1V2 had to overcome to define a road layout geometry that ensured good accessibility within the counties and a balanced distribution of traffic among the various towns and major centres.
The 6,6 km long variant features a number of regular engineering structures and the grade separation of an intersection.
