The enterprise was located in an area peripheral to the urban grid, relatively rural, whose characteristics perfectly matched the implantation of this recreational park.
Nature, Tradition, Education, Leisure and Sports were themes that were developed and implanted throughout the park, linked by networks of pedestrian and thematic paths.
Throughout the complex, Nature as a motif was developed, in an architectural proposal intimately connected to the terrain. We thus opted to edify nearly exclusively on the area of the Central and Planetarium Square, giving it a natural and even typically regional image.
We decided to create a dynamic and waving surface, partly due to the accentuated slopes, which supported the plantation of various regional species, showcasing the north of Portugal. The goals for this park were related to the will to create a space with an identity that matched the richness of this region of Portugal, a mirror of the most important patrimonial resources of the Alto Douro and the Terra Fria of Trás-os-Montes, a place to put tradition on display, the food, ethnographic elements, patrimonial resources, the border character, among others – in other words, a place that took into account the sociodemographics of the territory.
The guiding premise of this park was the creation of a multifunctional space, amply naturalised, organic and thematic. A1V2’s goal was to preserve the original landscape, harmoniously integrating and articulating the new spaces and the proposed buildings into it.
