Project description
This school complex with a capacity for 1.260 students was designed to meet all requirements for integrated functioning and with the intent to allow its opening to the community at large in periods outside the academic calendar. The formal design was a result of the layout of the several volumes and of the articulation of the functional sectors through a route designated as the “learning street”: a succession of spaces related to different learning situations. Ecological concepts were integrated into the formal solution, which materialised in the use of sustainable ecological construction systems and the implementation of solar technology, working pedagogically as an example to the community. These systems allowed the production of electric power and the heating of sanitary hot water, minimising costs.
With the younger population in mind, we gave the school a distinctive and appealing image through the use of three primary colours (blue, red and yellow) applied to the vertical slabs on the fronts of the building and their recesses. In certain points of the interior circulation areas, pastel tones of the same colours were applied, in accordance with the different ambiances, to distinguish the various sectors of the school complex. On the other hand, we decided to open the enclosed sports field to the mountain range, enhancing the view and associating the practice of sports to the natural surrounding.
A1V2 guiding principles in this project were the creation of diversified spaces and environments adapted to their intended use and to their users’ age range, integrating the best sustainable solutions into the design itself.
