Project description
Considered one of the principal urban centres not only in Morocco but in the whole north of Africa, Rabat presents immense potential. The recent urban regeneration
projects focused on construction, tourism, industry and technology are a clear sign that something is changing in Rabat.
The new master plan aims to reorganise the seven strategic sectors of the city to grant greater independence through the creation of new infrastructures.
We have unified the interventions on the different sectors through interstitial areas, providing the city with parks, gardens, sports and leisure infrastructures, squares and boulevards, bicycle and pedestrian paths. In this way, the social experience of the public space was enhanced, prioritising and ennobling the city and its landscape.
Rabat is known as the city of public employees, since all Ministries, Bureaus and official state companies are located there, making up a total of 2,5 million inhabitants in the entire province. Based on this reality and these numbers, the new master plan took into account the development of new urban areas to meet the administrative, governmental, financial and habitational requirements. The new master plan of Rabat thus brought a renewed vitality to the organisation of the Moroccan capital.
Rabat’s master plan proved itself a stimulating challenge to which only A1V2’s experience and multi-disciplinary competence was capable of providing a successful answer, integrating cultural and patrimonial local references into the latest concepts of urban planning.
