João da Cruz Avenue, Bragança — Portugal
João da Cruz Avenue, Bragança — Portugal
Selected Portfolio
The city of Bragança possesses an individual genius locci, a landscape marked by the Fervença River, plateaus, castle and wall. These elements were therefore used to define the design of the space as metaphors and symbols that bring Man and landscape closer together. To potentiate the pedestrian experience of the avenue and square, a formal concept that guaranteed these principles was developed, maximising the […]

Residential building, V.F. de Xira — Portugal
Housing and Urbanism, Other Projects
Due to the irregular shape of the terrain where the project was based, a terrain with several indents and obliquely aligned with the pre-existing structures, it became a necessity to develop an especially efficient solution that conformed to the legal pre-requisites. These constraints determined the general layout of the new building, consisting of a total of four floors. In the formal concept, the main […]

Housing and Urbanism, Other Projects
The proposed solution for this parcelling of sites aimed to integrate a great number of buildings into a limited terrain, in a context framed by featureless pre-existing houses. This developed buildings were divided into various categories: houses for the administration (8 units), common houses (73 units), leisure and public centre, reception, laundry and gym. Luanda Houses — Angola
Housing and Urbanism, Other Projects
The approach to these two projects, similar yet featuring different programmes, had to be adjusted to previously established constraints and premises. The first house, partially developed into two storeys, wraps around a small garden which acts as an outdoor living area and articulates the surrounding interior spaces. In the second house, our premise was to develop a single storey house that made the most […]

Family Houses, Aroeira — Portugal
Housing and Urbanism
The project for these one family houses in Aroeira was a result of the client’s request to promote houses of clear contemporary character that stood out from the architecturally poor urban surroundings. As in big scale projects, A1V2 commits its […]
Z House — Angola
Z House — Angola
Housing and Urbanism
To maximise the construction area, this house was shaped as a parallelepiped to which the necessary elements to the definition of the floors were subtracted. This resulted in a Z shape that wraps around the residence, creating a defining image. Colour played an important part in the composition of the volume; the Z shape is further contrasted from the rest of the outer surface […]

The proposed museum is organised around an interior courtyard which allows the use of natural light to illuminate the space and the pieces exhibited. Our solution was developed as a single-storey building set on the same level as the loading area, which allows for the entire area of study and future archaeological investigation to remain obstacle-free.
In this request for tenders, A1V2 set itself apart […]

Shaped like a Latin cross, the Religious Temple featured a predominantly south- north orientation. The main entrance was to the south and the access to the mortuary chapel and administrative area was located to the east. The plan was not to recreate the traditional type of architecture, but an architecture that showcased typically regional elements and materials (such as clay) and a proposal that […]

Car Park Building El Harrach — Argelia
Housing and Urbanism
This project incorporated and reinterpreted motifs from local culture to give contemporary aesthetics deeply rooted in the location to a merely functional building. Thus, the front contains a typical mashrabiya latticework, an Arabic design to control the lighting of the spaces, enclose and protect them from excessive heat, allowing a clear view of the outside from within. Other than its main function as a […]

Library and Municipal Archive, Grândola — Portugal
Selected Portfolio
The shape chosen for the new Library and Municipal Archive building of Grândola was that of a parallelepiped to which matter was subtracted in certain points to give room to several courtyards, namely one in the entrance, where the main access is located. The covering was worked into a reinterpretation of the water system, similar to what is seen in nearly all surrounding buildings. […]
